The Card Centre Felixstowe, one of the oldest shops in the town, has officially been recognised as the best independent greeting card shop in East Anglia.
At a glittering ceremony at the Dorchester Hotel in London in July 2012, attended by more than 500 industry experts, The Card Centre Felixstowe was awarded the trophy for 'Best Independent Card Retailer in East Anglia'. The prestigious Greeting Card Retailing Awards are given to honour excellence across all types of card sellers. The 'RETAs' are run by the Progressive Greetings Worldwide magazine, with this category sponsored by International Greetings.
To celebrate winning the accolade, together with The Card Centre's 65th birthday, customers were invited to name the Art Deco style pewter statuette award. Customers paid a pound each to suggest a name, and £200 was raised for two local charities – the FACTS bus service (which provides transport for the elderly and disabled into the town centre), and Level Two (which provides a range of youth club activities and support for young people in Felixstowe). Felixstowe Mayoress Anne Deacon chose the name 'Felicia', which was suggested by Mrs Everitt, who was presented with £50 of vouchers.
Owner John Barratt said, “I feel deeply honoured to have won such a prestigious award. I would like to thank the many loyal customers for their continued support over the years. I would also like to thank publicly my superb, diligent and loyal staff for their hard work and efforts. This award is as much theirs as mine. Customer reaction has been so very positive, we have received many messages and congratulatory cards, including a card from America!”
